The Flaws

While the music is great, the story is very vague and can be hard to follow when listening for the first time. The story also has a lot of flaws such as there only being 2 female characters that only act as the love interest.Nidria, the love interest in Act 1, only really appears in one song called "The Missing Piece" and sings a little bit in another called "The Oracle". Anhura, the love interest in Act 2, appears in more songs than Nidria, but doesn't really get that much development despite that. In "It's True Love", there's a lyric which Anhura says, "I never would guess your touch could fill me with such thoughts to marry you, have your babies, too. Is it too good to be true?" which is pretty ridiculous to say the least. In the song "Doctor Doctor", Anhura get sick due to Adakias being from the Dark and had to go to Doctor Dumaya to get cured. However, the price for getting cured was to basically sign her life away to him. She refused, but Adakias kinda forced her into doing it because it was the only way for her to get cured. It ends up working out in the end, but it can be a little uncomfortable to listen to.In general, most of the characters appear for one song and disappear for the rest of the musical. This makes the story go by pretty fast which can make it hard to understand without looking at the lyrics. This is mostly due to the musical being an album rather than a fully-developed broadway show. In 2012, Forgive Durden rewrote Razia's Shadow to make it more adaptable for a broadway show which is called Razia's Shadow @ Joe's Pub. It's not as great as the album, but the story was "improved" to combat some of the flaws in it. However, the narration is cut out in the videos, so we don't know the full story.[ As far as I know ], the people singing in RS are all white and Thomas Dutton [ the main person behind Razia's Shadow ] is a cishet white man which can explain most of the writing of the musical. (Got into NFTs as well recently)Brendon Urie, as stated before, does sing in the musical and appears in two songs. These songs are "The Exit" which introduces Adakias and Pallis and "The End and The Beginning" which is the finale song. If you want to avoid him, skip these two songs. If you're still interested in listening, the album can be found on Spotify.
